The Tube 2.7 introduces Placeshifting: The current digital TV show can be shared with others via iChat. Leopard users can simply drag a The Tube icon into an active video chat to enjoy the show with friends via iChat Theater. The iChat partner can even record a video clip of the show being shared.

Subscribe to a TubeToGo podcast of TV recordings

Users can now subscribe to an RSS format podcast directly within iTunes of their TV shows that have been recorded and published to a TubeToGo web gallery. The podcast can then accessed directly by an Apple TV device, which can download any new recordings automatically. Users that would like to share their web galleries with friends can now invite them to take a look via email. To help keep track of TV shows, users can now also add individual entries from the electronic programming guide (EPG) to iCal and automatically be reminded when a show is about to start.

More power for Leopard users

The Tube users can now benefit even more from the power of Mac OS X 10.5: The Tube 2.7 can add a stack of a user's recordings to Leopard's Dock and they can also be previewed with QuickLook. The Tube uses Core Graphics animations throughout its interface and can exclude The Tube-recordings from Time Machine-Backups, in order to save valuable backup space for other files.

equinux today released The Tube 2.6 with a completely reengineered EPG engine. Users can now choose between different electronic program guide (EPG) plug-ins and automatically update TV information even when they're imported from alternative EPGs in the XMLTV format. One of the biggest publishing companies for television listings in Germany, Bauer Verlagsgruppe, led the way by providing its TV Movie, Europe's toughest film critics, EPG service to German The Tube users as a plug-in in The Tube.

The Tube 2.6 automatically updates the electronic program guide (EPG) twice a day and therefore always provides users with the latest TV listings. To open the application to third-party providers of TV listings, The Tube now has a new plug-in structure to allow users to choose between different television guides. The Tube was the first Mac application to add support for the open XMLTV standard for TV listings. Today equinux has released The Tube 2.5 with the new TubeToGo webservice. The Tube-users can now make their TV recordings available in an online Webgallery. With the TubeToGo web interface, users have complete access to recordings, make them public and have the ability to schedule recordings on the go.

Television is mobile

With TubeToGo, The Tube-users can use the internet to have constant access to the TV recordings on their Macs at home. Using the TubeToGo interface, TV recordings can be made public so they can be later accessed by a web-connected iPhone, iPod Touch or Safari web browser. TubeToGo also includes an EPG which can be used to schedule TV recordings while on-the-go.
