iOS and Enterprise
iOS is unique in the enterprise space. It is the first and only mobile operating system to be adopted by enterprise which exclusively runs on hardware designed by the same manufacturer. The distinct advantage, is that this single vendor ecosystem blends usability and security through standardized interfaces, protocols and development procedures.
Single vs. Multi-Platform
Multi-platform systems appear to have the upper hand at first glance but can easily become a very expensive learning experience. Due to the hundreds of mobile phones and tablet devices within each company, it is almost impossible to support and test each time a release occurs.
There are mobile OS choices out there but not all are ready for enterprise use. The recent Android Security hole incident is just one example of many.
Many current TARMAC customers started with multi-platform solutions and have since made the switch. The most common reason is that multi-platform solutions simply didn't meet their expectations. The main issue is that multi-platform solutions are expected to support all mobile operating systems equally: iOS, Android, RIM, Windows Mobile, Symbian, just to name a few. Each has its own unique MDM API and some are more complex, more limited, or even more prone to malfunction than others.
Scenarios: From Berries to Apples ...
For those companies making the switch from BlackBerry to iPhone or simply adding a second layer of iOS devices, TARMAC can be easily integrated into existing infrastructures and take the place of or work alongside your other mobile solutions. Once TARMAC is in place, there is virtually no learning curve for new administrators.
