This FAQ only applies to users running Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger. If you are running a newer Mac OS X version, please see this FAQ
If you are running Mac OS X 10.4, you may be running into a known bug in Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger. This bug was reported to Apple in June 2005 (#4145531). The bug has been resolved in Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard.
To verify that this bug affects you, you can use the command line SMB client which is not affected by the bug. To use this client, please open the Terminal and type:
smbclient '\\YOURSERVER\YOURSHARE' -U yourusername Password: Domain=[WORKGROUP] OS=[Unix] Server=[Samba 3.0.10] smb: > dir : : smb: > cd somedirectory smb: somedirectory> dir : : smb: somedirectory> get somefile getting file somedirectorysomefile of size 18568 as ToDo.sit (157.7 kb/s) (average 157.7 kb/s) smb: somedirectory> quit
This should work over a VPN connection. If this does not work, your problem is not related to Apple's bug. In this case, please see this FAQ.
