What does it mean if a VPN gateway was changed from IKEv2 to IKEv1?
If a VPN gateway was changed from IKEv2 to IKEv1, the VPN connection in VPN Tracker also needs to match the new protocol. IKEv1 and IKEv2 are not just two labels for the same connection. They are different IPsec negotiation methods with different settings and compatibility requirements.
The article What is IKEv2 VPN? explains the differences between IKEv1 and IKEv2 and why both protocols have their own requirements. If your VPN Tracker connection is configured as IKEv2 but the gateway now expects IKEv1, the negotiation cannot complete successfully.
Ask your IT team or VPN administrator which protocol is currently enabled on the gateway and which credentials apply. In many cases, not only the protocol changes, but also the Pre-Shared Key, group name, identifiers, remote network, and Phase 1 / Phase 2 parameters.
