How can I prevent podcasts and audiobooks from showing up?

Depending on when you started using iTunes, podcasts and audiobooks will either be located in your main iTunes music folder, or in dedicated folders of their own.

If you go to "Music > iTunes" and see an "iTunes music" folder, your library is still using the old structure. You can tell iTunes to re-organize your library folder structure to separate your music files from your other content, which will allow CoverScout and SongGenie to ignore them when looking for music files.

Warning: If you choose to re-organize your iTunes library, it can't be undone. We recommend making a backup of your iTunes library folder before proceeding.

Step 1: Re-organizing your iTunes library

  • Open iTunes
  • Check to see if your podcasts and audiobooks are listed in their appropriate categories within your iTunes library. If not, change the media kind in file info options.
  • Choose "File > Library > Organize Library" and make sure the "Upgrade to iTunes Media Organization" option is checked.

Once iTunes has re-organized your iTunes Media folder, you can tell SongGenie and CoverScout to only look at your music files:

Step 2: Excluding podcasts and audiobooks

  • Open SongGenie or CoverScout
  • Select the application menu and choose "Preferences…"
  • Click "-" to remove the current folder location (usually "Users/Youruser/Music")
  • Click "+" and select "Users/Youruser/Music/iTunes/iTunes Media/Music"

Once the program has finished re-indexing your music collection, your podcasts and audiobooks will be ignored and you can focus on working on your music files.
